Cheryl Hughes: Some People Are Just Happy

“If two people in a relationship are just alike, one of them is unnecessary.”  Forgot where I read that, but it’s true.  Both Garey and I are very necessary to our relationship.  Nothing proves that more than the recent survey Garey took with the VA via phone with a VA representative.

Back-to-school activities are in full swing. Parents are thinking about school supplies and necessary clothes for the school year. For years, I helped my children shop before returning to school, but now they’re adults. The school calendar no longer affects my personal shopping. In recent years, I shop for clothing only when I need an item or want a change.

Cheryl Hughes: Unreasonably Warm

The summers in Kentucky are much hotter than they used to be.  I’m not basing this assessment on the National Weather Service data, nor the “Old Farmers Almanac,” nor a ground hog in Pennsylvania; neither am I looking for a fight over climate change or global warming.  I’m basing my findings on the most scientific method known to man: personal experience.  I know, I have griped repeatedly in this column about the heat and insects in Garey’s home state of Alabama, but another gripe is fully warranted for a reference point, as you will see in the following paragraph.
