BC Schools out on Tuesday due to inclement weather

An early batch of winter weather has led to the cancellation of classes at both Butler County Schools and Oak Ridge Schools on Tuesday, November 12. Precipitation started Monday afternoon and falling temperatures gradually turned the rain into sleet and light snow making for potentially slick driving conditions. Temperatures continued to fall throughout the evening, dropping several degrees below the freezing mark.

Two Vehicle Collision Results in Fatality in Butler County

Roundhill, KY  (November 10, 2019)- On Sunday, November 10th at 1:08 PM the Kentucky State Police Post 3, Bowling Green received a call for service from the Butler County Sheriff’s Department requesting assistance with an investigation regarding a two vehicle fatal collision.

Morgantown Care & Rehab Hall of Fame Inductee: Myrlene Cox

Myrlene Cox has been a very special part of Morgantown Care & Rehabilitation Center for years. Ms. Cox was born in Butler County, Kentucky on October 14, 1932. Her parents were William and Laura. Myrlene went to grade school in Butler County. Her father was a coal miner. She is a very proud coal miner’s daughter. She can remember her dad coming over the hill and snow all over the ground and he looked like a little black bug. When he walked through the door all the kids would gather around and see what candy he had to pass out. At age 17 she married Charles.

Morgantown Care & Rehab Hall of Fame Inductee: Suzanne Phelps Brosnan

Butler County is home for Suzanne Brosnan. Born in Warren County her family moved back to Butler County before Suzanne was six years old. Suzanne is the daughter of Bernice O. Phelps and the late J.C. Phelps. She was raised on Dunn Store Road in Butler County along with her five brothers and sisters; Vickie Hutcheson (late husband Charlie), Kevin Phelps (wife Debi), Howard Phelps (wife Melinda), Penney Wallace (husband Mike), and Mike Phelps (wife Shelia). Suzanne and her husband Tommy graduated from Butler County High School in 1980.

Morgantown Care & Rehab Hall of Fame Inductee: Sherry Embry Johnson

Sherry Embry Johnson has been deeply shaped by her community. She was born and raised in Butler County to parents, Wendell C. and Faye Embry. She had many wonderful role models in her early formative years. People like Aunt Illma Haven taught her how to be positive. Others like Chesley Daugherty and Forrest Taylor were terrific examples of leaders in Sherry’s formative years. Her sense of home and community was cultivated by good friends and neighbors who took care of each other.

Morgantown Care & Rehab Hall of Fame Inductee: Marguerite Porter Tuggle

Marguerite Porter Tuggle has been a very special part of Morgantown Care & Rehabilitation Center for years. Ms. Tuggle was born in Eden, Kentucky on June 19th, 1935. She was named after her oldest brother’s girlfriend Ms. Marguerite Humphrey. Ms. Tuggle had a happy childhood. She was fortunate to have more than most due to her father working hard to provide for the family and her mother being a homemaker who was a fantastic cook. Ms. Tuggle was the youngest girl of 9 siblings. She attended Eden School, a one room schoolhouse, until the tenth grade.

Morgantown Care & Rehab Hall of Fame Inductee: Christina Jones

Morgantown Care and Rehab held their annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Thursday night at Morgantown Community Church.  Chaplain Derek Cain severed as emcee and welcomed everyone to the event.  Mackenzie Bell, 13 an eighth grader from Ohio County provided the entertainment.  She is the Georgia State Beginner's Fiddler Champion.  She played the National Anthem, and two other pieces including the Orange Blossom Special.

Magistrates approve $20K donation on 3-2 vote for trap building at BC Conservation Club

Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday, October 28, at 5:00 p.m. at the Butler County Courthouse. All magistrates were in attendance: First District Stevie Givens, Second District Kevin Phelps, Third District Timmy Givens, Fourth District David Whittinghill, and Fifth District Dillon Bryant.
