Carolyn Sue Johnson Al Awar
Carolyn Sue Johnson Al Awar, known lovingly as Sue, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky, surrounded by the legacy of a life marked by faith, devotion, and love. She was born on March 19, 1952, in Mattoon, Illinois, Throughout her life she remained deeply connected to her roots, her family, and the many people whose lives she touched through her kindness and ministry.
Sue was a loving, faith-filled, and passionate woman whose life was centered on serving others and sharing the message of hope. She was the founder and pastor of Shepherds Daughter, a ministry through which she poured her heart into the work of the Lord. Her calling took her to many places, where she held tent revivals in several states.
In addition to her ministry, Sue had many creative gifts and interests that brought joy to those around her. She wrote children’s books, crafted with care, tended gardens, and wrote newsletters that reflected her thoughtful spirit.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Carlie Sr. and Enly Lindsey Johnson; her son, Carlos Hunt; her brother, Carlie Johnson Jr.; and her sisters, Irene Henne, Imogene French, Bertha Horsley, and Thelma Neighbors.
She is survived by her three children, Sherry Doughten of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Cindy Harrod (Steve) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and Adam Al Awar of Bowling Green, KY. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Chris Doughten (Patricia), Carlie Doughten, Joshua Harrod, Jessica Harrod, Blake Hardin, Brittany Costello, Alex Hunt (Kim), Isaiah Hunt, Isabella Hunt, and Olivia Hunt. Her family also includes eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, all of whom brought her great joy. She is further survived by her sisters, Bea Metlzer and Virgie Brown both of Mattoon, Illinois, along with several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be held at the Chapel Union Cemetery Monday, May 11, 2026 at 1:00pm.
