James Darrell Brooks
James Darrell Brooks, known to family and friends as Darrell, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at his residence in Morgantown, Kentucky, at the age of 54. Darrell was born on October 28, 1971, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was a loving, generous, and creative man whose presence brought comfort and warmth to those around him. He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Brooks Sr., his stepmother, Sandy Brooks, and his grandparents, James A. and Dorothy Brooks, and Harrison and Marie White.
Family was at the center of Darrell’s life. He is survived by his wife, Amanda Johnson Brooks, they shared eight years of marriage after being united on October 7, 2018. He was deeply devoted to his mother, Minnie White Burden, his sister, Jennifer McCombs and her husband Todd, his brother, Allen Brooks Jr. and his wife Tammy, and a true sister in heart, Marilyn Frady and her husband Paul, all of Morgantown, Kentucky. He also held a special place in his heart for his mother-in-law, Peggy Johnson of Leitchfield, Kentucky, as well as for his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Darrell worked for several years as a dry wall hanger, beyond work, he found his greatest joy in the simple and meaningful moments spent with the people he loved. Darrell enjoyed fishing and riding horses, and he found happiness in spending time outdoors and making memories with those closest to him. He treasured time with his nieces and nephews, and he was especially devoted to his momma, who was very special to him. His love for family was evident in the way he showed up for others.
Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel Friday, April 17, 2026 at 1:00pm with Bro. Buddy Swift and Bro. Toby White officiating. Burial will be in the White Ridge Cemetery where Ethan McCombs, Stephen Brooks, Brandon Johnson, Tyler Lee, Christian and Raylan Johnson, Seth McCombs, James Brooks and Jeremy Johnson will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026 from 4:00pm -7:00pm and Friday 8:00am until funeral time at 1:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
