Mary Jo Wagoner, age 78, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2025, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY. Born on Friday, December 13, 1946, in Butler County, KY, Mary Jo's life was a testament to the power of selflessness and the joy of giving. Mary Jo was the daughter to the late Ernest and Ruth Smith Abbott. She was the beloved wife of the late Ben Wagoner, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and love. Her brother-in-law, Joel Duke, also preceded her in death.

 

She is survived by her son, Cody Wagoner, and his wife, Kristin; her adored granddaughter, Avery Wagoner; her sisters, Imogene Duke and Connie Abbott, all of Morgantown, KY; her nephew, Jarrod Duke (Mary), of Bowling Green, KY; her niece, Joanna Castlen (Richard), of Morgantown, KY; and several great-nieces and nephews.

 

Mary Jo's professional life was spent as a talented hairdresser at Nyla's and Brenda's Beauty Shops, where she not only styled hair but also nurtured friendships.

 

Her interests were a reflection of her love for life and the people in it. Mary Jo enjoyed gardening, crafting and a passionate fan of UK Basketball and sports in general. Above all, spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter Avery, who was the highlight of her days.

 

A Time of Gathering will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025 from 3:00pm - 7:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
