Emma Jean Childers
Emma Jean Childers, passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, October 27, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on Sunday, November 26, 1933, in Butler County, Kentucky, to the late Ebb and Edna Cherry Joiner, Jean lived a life marked by love, dedication, and service to her family and community.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 59 years, Clay Childers. Her parents, Ebb and Edna, her brothers Ernest Joiner, Joe Joyner (Zelma), and Roy Joyner, and her sisters Dorothy Phelps (Red) and Betty Tucker (L.C.) also predeceased her. Jean's legacy continues through her children, :two sons Steve and John Childers of Morgantown, KY, and daughter Sue Snodgrass (Venson) of Elizabethtown, KY. She was a proud grandmother to Travis Childers of Oregon, Luke, and Mike Childers of Morgantown, KY, and Shane and Ben Snodgrass (Tiffany) of Elizabethtown, KY. Her great-grandchildren Jaxon Childers of Morgantown, KY, Colton Snodgrass, Kendall Snodgrass of Elizabethtown, KY, and Skylar Snodgrass (Ethan) of Bonnieville, KY, and great-great-grandchild Weston Jones of Bonnieville, KY. Jean's sisters-in-law, Dean Joiner of Morgantown, KY, and Paula Joyner of Florida, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Morgantown High School, Jean began working at GE in Owensboro, KY. She later worked at Kane's Manufacturing and then at Kellwood Manufacturing until her retirement. However, retirement could not contain her industrious spirit, and she returned to work at Kellwood's Factory Outlet and the Dollar Store. Jean's passion for gardening was evident in the bountiful harvests she shared with family, friends, and neighbors each summer. She was also renowned for her homemade blackberry jelly, fried chicken, and apple pies.
Jean was a woman of faith, a member of the Church of Christ, she was a lady full of grace, generosity, and compassion. Her hobbies extended beyond the garden to sewing and crafting, where she created beautiful things with her hands that were as loving and kind as her heart.
At Jean's request a private graveside service will be held at a later date, arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Chapel.
