Agnes Amelia “Jo” Martin, age 96, formerly of Morgantown, Kentucky, passed away Monday, March 31, 2025, in Placerville, California after a sudden illness. Agnes was born on Sunday, August 12, 1928, in the South Hill community of Butler County, KY to the union of the late Omer and Nora Andrews Grubb. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and she retired from Guide Lamp, a division of General Motors, on November 30, 1989, in Anderson, Indiana after 43 years of service. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, and cooking but most of all, spending time with her family and friends. During her life, she was an avid bowler, competing in many statewide tournaments, an avid traveler, and a master gardener, freezing and canning most of her garden. During her 43 years at General Motors, she was active in her local United Auto Worker (UAW) union activities and advocated for workers' rights. Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Martin and, as the last living member of her immediate family, by all her siblings Quint, Carl, Bradley and Rayburn Grubb, Altha Carroll, Ruby Belilies, Lorene Pendley, and Edra “Dean” Ragland.
Agnes is survived by one daughter, Lori Rae Bradley (Jim), six grandchildren Samuel Parker (Meghan), Sydney and Sabrina Parker, Madison, McKenna, and Mitchell Bradley, two great grandchildren Brantley and Aubrey Parker, and a large assortment of beloved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Life service will be held at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church on highway 70W in South Hill, Kentucky on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 1:00pm with Bro. Greg Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Sandy Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 12:00pm until service time at 1:00pm at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
