James Elton Adkins
James Elton Adkins, age 79 of Morgantown, KY, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville, KY. Born on Monday, April 16, 1945, in Bowling Green, KY, James's journey through life was marked by his kindness, intelligence, and selflessness.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Hillary and Magnolia Phelps Adkins; his devoted wife, Janice C. Henderson Adkins; his step-grandson, Sean Sebastian; and two siblings, Alta Phelps and Talma Phelps.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication through his two sons, Eric Adkins (Tammie) and Dirk Adkins (Leslie), both of Morgantown, KY. His four grandchildren, Haley Adkins of Cincinnati, OH, Laney Adkins, Wyatt Adkins, and Ayden Adkins, all of Morgantown, KY, two step-grandchildren Kayley McMullan (Jordan) and Chris Sebastian (Miranda), both of Morgantown, KY; four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Shauna, Sean Jr., and Sadie; four siblings, Alton Adkins (Maria) of Troy, TN, Ann Divine of Rochester, KY, John Adkins (Sissy) of Richardsville, KY, and Nola Bush of Russellville, KY, along with several nieces and nephews .
Elton proudly served his country as a United States Army Veteran in Vietnam and continued his service in the National Guard during the 1980s. His commitment to service extended to his community involvement as a member of Cassia Lodge #272 and Barnett's Lick Missionary Baptist Church. Beyond his service and community involvement, Elton was a man of the outdoors. He found solace and joy in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, and gardening.
Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel, Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 11:00am with Bro. Joe Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the Isiah Evans Cemetery where military rights will be presented by the Ohio County AM Vets, serving as pallbearers, Wyatt and Ayden Adkins, Chris Sebastian, Kirk and Cameron Henderson and Terry Casey. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from 3:00pm - 7:00pm and Wednesday 8:00am until funeral time at 11:00am at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
