Forrest "Woody" Phelps

Forrest "Woody" Phelps, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence in Morgantown, Kentucky, on July 26, 2024. Born on October 20, 1954, in Jetson, Kentucky, Woody lived a life marked by love, friendship, and a spirited zest for life that touched everyone he knew. Woody was a proud member of the Carpenters Union, where he applied his passion for woodworking to his professional life. His skilled hands and creative mind brought many projects to life. Woody's love for music, riding 4-wheelers, and socializing with friends and family filled his life with joy and laughter.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his children: John Phelps (Esther) of California, Matthew Phelps of Nashville, TN, Laura Turner (Michael) of Morgantown, KY, and his special daughter Becky Martin (Babe) of Morgantown, KY. Woody was a doting grandfather to Crystal, Natalie, and Stephen Ervin, Emily Phelps, Caleb (Taylor) and Bailey Renfrow, Jordan and Tyler Turner, and great-grandfather to Emery and Keegan Rowe, Levi Ervin, and Baby Boy Renfrow. Woody is also survived by his five siblings: Finley Phelps (Ruth) of Roundhill, KY, Frankie Carrigan (Stephen) of Morgantown, KY, Kathy Dockery (Donald) of Morgantown, KY, Joe Phelps of Morgantown, KY, and Joy Henderson (Timmy) of Roundhill, KY. His life was enriched by the companionship of his special friend Bonnie Deweese of Morgantown, KY, brother-in-law Sam Cardwell of Morgantown, KY and several nieces and nephews.

Woody was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest W. and Ora Aline Johnson Phelps, his beloved wife Vivian Stice Phelps, and his sister Rita Cardwell.

Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 12:00 pm with Bro. Marion Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Phelps Cemetery where Matthew and John Phelps, Caleb Renfrow, Daniel, Steven and Ivah Shepherd and Jackie Miller will serve as pallbearers.Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm and Sunday 9:00am until funeral time at 12:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
