You Should Join Extension Homemakers…and Here’s Why

By: Tracy M. Cowles, Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences

Would you like to become involved in an organization that gives back to the community?  Are you looking to learn about interesting topics such as – light bulbs and the difference in types, money management, handling stress, holiday appetizers, green cleaning and healthy homes, Amish heritage, and much more?  Do you have or are you a college/tech bound student, or a current college/tech student, that could use financial aid?   If you answered yes to any of these, then the Butler County Homemaker Association is just right for you!

There are several ways you can become an Extension Homemaker member in Butler County!  Members can join a club and attend monthly meetings, which is a great way to get involved and participate hands on with activities, or members can join as a Mailbox member, which allows you to receive materials through the mail.

The Butler County Homemaker Association has three active clubs—Aunt Jane’s Club (meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Extension Office at 5 p.m.), Dexterville Club (date/location varies), and Midway Club (meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Extension Office at 10 a.m.).

FELLAS – Membership isn’t JUST for the ladies!  The Butler County Extension Homemakers Association welcomes members no matter what their age, race, color, national origin, religion, marital status or gender.  We currently have male officers leading the way in our organization.  YOUTH - This also serves as an excellent opportunity for youth to become members and participate in fundraising and volunteer events, which always looks great on those school/job applications!  COLLEGE/TECH STUDENTS – One way the Butler County Homemaker Association gives back is by offering TWO scholarships annually to seniors or adults that are college/tech bound or already attending (some membership restrictions apply).

Membership dues are only $8.50 annually - the information you learn and feelings you get from giving back to your community are well worth it!  If you join before December, you’ll also receive State Homemaker news and info for FREE!

For more information or to join, contact the Butler Cooperative Extension Service at 102 Parkway Lane, Morgantown or call 270-526-3767.

Educational programs of Kentucky Cooperative Extension serve all people regardless of economic or social status and will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ethnic origin, national origin, creed, religion, political belief, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, marital status, genetic information, age, veteran status, or physical or mental disability.
