WRECC Holds Christmas Expo

Warren RECC held this year’s Christmas Expo in the Butler County Education Complex on Thursday evening, October 20, from 4 – 6 pm.  The event wasn’t all about Christmas, however.  In keeping with the cooperative’s emphasis on providing useful information to its members, two key note speakers were on hand to present strategies for preparedness.

Terry Hunt (Butler County Emergency Services) emphasized the importance of planning for the unexpected, especially in the event of natural disasters.  Hunt put together a kit of emergency provisions (including a weather radio) in a five-gallon bucket in order to demonstrate how easy it could be to put together a collection of life-saving items.  The kit was later given away as a door prize.  Connie Embry, of Morgantown, was the lucky recipient.

Attorney, Richard Deye, stressed the importance of having a will, especially if young children are involved.  He explained to the crowd the different types of wills and the information required to determine which will would best fit their needs.

Refreshments were served by the local employees of WRECC, and the goodies included samples from recipes that are included in this year’s Serving The Lines cookbook.

The focus of the expo was a presentation by Pat Raymond (Bowling Green) of Christmas craft ideas.  Ms. Raymond emphasized the importance of recycling items each of us has already in order to make decorations that are “new” to us.  “We’re all pinching pennies these days,” she said, “You can recycle products and still have a good Christmas.”  Ms. Raymond moved down the tables of wreaths, trees and miniatures, pointing out the old items that were recycled with new touches.

At the conclusion of the expo, each attendee was given a goody bag that included this year’s cookbook, Serving The Lines, and a pamphlet outlining the Christmas crafts on display at the event.
