WLBQ Radio Auction Nets $10K for Boys & Girls Club
The annual WLBQ radio auction to support the Boys and Girls Club of Butler County was held on Saturday, November 22. The event was hosted by Morgantown Bank and Trust through the use of their facility and the airways of "The New Q" - WLBQ 101.5 FM.
According to Bruce White, director of the Boys & Girls Club, this year's radio auction was the best one to date.
“The auction netted $9,514 and an anonymous donor added $486, bringing the grand total to $10,000,” said White.
Commonwealth Attorney Tim Coleman and Tom Jones, president of Morgantown Bank & Trust, were the emcees of the day with White giving them short breaks. Several volunteers answered the phones, sorted the donations, and collected the money on Saturday.
“We had over 155 items for the auction,” said Phyllis Ray, one of the event organizers. "We want to thank everyone that donated items.”
The top dollar item was a pair of UK vs. Texas basketball tickets, donated by State Representative C.B. Embry Jr., which sold for $705. Cakes, candy, chicken manure, firewood, haircuts, and gift cards were among the long list of items donated.
Originated by the Optimist Club to fund their projects, the radio auction was a tradition on the first Saturday in December, Christmas Parade Day in Morgantown. The auction continues today as a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Butler County and was moved to the Saturday before Thanksgiving last year.
"We're glad to support the Boys and Girls Club," said John Embry, speaking on behalf of WLBQ. "The club is a great organization that does tremendous about of good for the children of Butler County."
