Will the Real Cheryl Hughes Please Stand Up

I was supposed to be redoing my dining room this weekend.  My daughter, Natalie, and I figured up that the current wall paper has been on that wall for over twenty years.  It’s definitely time, but the task is so daunting.  I looked the situation over on Saturday morning, mulling over in my mind what would have to be moved and where.  I was exhausted just thinking about it.  I decided to check my email before I got started.  Email led to Facebook and Facebook to Google.  You know how it is.  The composer, Shuman, said, “The genius is in the starting,” and nobody has ever accused me of being a genius.

I got the idea to Google the name, Cheryl Hughes, just to see what the other ones were up to.  I thought they might inspire me to do my best.  Man! Am I ever an underachiever!
Cheryl Hughes is the Director of Program Development for the mayor’s office of special events for the city of Chicago, and the senior director of strategic initiatives for the Chicago Community Trust, as well.

Cheryl Hughes has published four books: Race, Social Identity, and Human Dignity; Truth and Objectivity in social Ethics; Environmental Philosophy as Social Philosophy; and Jackson, the Pigeon Who Was Afraid of Heights.  Her quotes about lying and cheating and their effect upon the individual and the community are all over the internet quote sites.  Truth be told, I would probably fall asleep while trying to read the first three books, but, having an affinity for birds, I am quite envious of the fourth publication.

Cheryl Hughes also teaches at Indiana University.  She is a licensed clinical social worker and therapist in Dacula, Georgia.  Cheryl Hughes lives in Australia, Atlanta, New York, Kentucky and Canada.  She is an insurance broker, a design professional, and the administrator of a dental center.  She wrote the Web Wizards Guide to Xhtml, and she trains dogs in Vancouver, Canada.

The website, Spokeo, says there are 76 of me living in Kentucky, although I’m not sure I can trust the accuracy of that number.  Spokeo also says there are three of me living in Morgantown.  I often feel as if I have to be in two places at once, but three would be a bit of a stretch.

I found the actual me a few times during my web search.  It was usually in connection with something I had written for Beech Tree News, which makes me happy.  Luckily, there was no mention of the woman who had put off changing her wall paper for twenty-one years.

I’m glad I’m this Cheryl Hughes, with this family and this group of friends.  (Okay, I do envy that Vancouver dog trainer just a teensy bit—she’d know how to keep Scout in line, and I’m going to remind him just how good he’s got it when I go out to feed him this afternoon.)  I like where I am and who I am, and there was a time when I couldn’t say that, so I am very thankful to be at this place in my life.  I hope all the other Cheryl Hugheses are that lucky.
