"When you say it can't be done you are limiting your world," Erin Gruwell.

Erin Gruwell founder of the Freedom Writers Foundation.

In response to a summer Freedom Writers Conference, where Mr. Ben Annis invited Erin Gruwell to visit Green River School that possibility came true last week.  Gruwell stepped into Green River Youth Development Center just like she was stepping into Room 203 at Wilson High School 20 years ago.
“She brings energy and experiences that cannot be matched,” said Principal Annis.
Gruwell spoke to students and adults and provided all with a message of hope and opportunities to realize their full potential.  Gruwell did not stop with just talking.  She put her message into action in the classroom where she worked with Green River students in developing and understanding their story.   Her message was that every one of us has a story, which as long as we are breathing is unfinished, and can always be changed.
Superintendent Scott Howard who was in attendance stated, “I don’t think I have ever heard a more powerful message. The story Erin Gruwell brings from the streets of California are so relevant to many of the students that are at Green River. People like Erin have a very special gift of getting the best from others. "

Erin Gruwell is the founder of the Freedom Writers Foundation, the author of the now documented bestselling book and the feature film.  Ms. Barbara Hamilton with Title 1  played a huge part in making this visit a reality.  This visit was very special to the Green River YDC family.  Ms. Gruwell has promised to come back again.
