What Could BG Be? A New Community Initiative Invites Regional Participation
Bowling Green, KY – The future of Bowling Green isn’t just about the city—it’s about the entire region. As Bowling Green and Warren County grows, the surrounding communities will feel the impact, making it more important than ever for everyone who lives, works, and plays in the area to have a voice in shaping that future.
Enter What Could BG Be?—a new, community-driven initiative inviting residents from across the region to help answer that question. Launched as part of the BG 2050 initiative, this effort brings together more than 100 volunteers and community leaders to ensure that Bowling Green’s growth makes the entire region better, not just bigger.
With Warren County projected to grow by a current City of Bowling Green in population over the next 25 years, this is a pivotal moment for engagement. What Could BG Be? creates a space for people from across South Central Kentucky to share ideas, voice priorities, and engage in a collective conversation about how to shape a sustainable and intentional future.
“The best way to ensure Bowling Green’s future reflects the values of the people who live and work here is to invite everyone to the table,” said Sam Ford, founding partner with Innovation Engine, who is running the project. “This initiative gives our entire region a chance to share your ideas and hopes for what you want to see happen here over the next 25 years.”
The What Could BG Be? conversation is live from February 14 through March 17, and everyone is encouraged to participate by visiting WhatCouldBGBe.com or scanning the QR codes available on posters and promotional materials throughout the region. Participants can submit ideas; agree, disagree, or pass on others’ suggestions; and revisit the site regularly to follow the evolving discussion.
Businesses, organizations, and community spaces across the region can also play a vital role by displaying materials such as posters, table tents, and QR codes, encouraging employees and customers to participate, and even hosting discussions. Businesses that get involved will receive free promotional materials and the opportunity to be recognized as a community partner.
Innovation Engine, a Bowling Green-based organization, in collaboration with BG 2050, a project started by the Warren County Government and run by the Innovation Engine team, in partnership with Dr Sangita Shresthova of the University of Southern California Civic Imagination Project. The input gathered from “What Could BG Be?” will help inform future plans and priorities for local organizations and city planners. The results of the initiative will be shared on the What Could BG Be? website by the end of April.
