Warren RECC Members Submit over 3,000 Comments to the EPA

Warren RECC President and CEO W. Scott Ramsey announced that over 3,000 comments have been submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in opposition to the agency’s proposal to limit carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants. The comment period closed on December 1.
“Our top priority is keeping electric bills affordable for our members. Unfortunately, the EPA didn’t consider the real world impact this latest proposal will have on the budgets of families and businesses in south central Kentucky and across America,” Ramsey said. “We receive 40 percent of our power from coal, and these latest regulations from the EPA could cause the shutdown of our most affordable source of power. That’s why over 3,000 of our members spoke out and told the EPA they cannot afford the continuous stream of regulations. It’s possible to balance affordability, reliability, and environmental stewardship, but not under these latest rules. Coal is a low-cost, safe, secure, and domestic energy source that ensures reliable power. We cannot afford to cut coal out of the fuel mix. Warren RECC supports responsible use of all technologies to meet the growing demand for electricity use.”
Warren RECC participated in a nation-wide campaign of electric cooperatives that collectively submitted over 1.1 million comments to the EPA opposing new regulations for new and existing power plants.
