VFW Post 5837 provides BCHS with a new flag & an educational experience

On Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022, Commander Jim Parker and Brian Pharris of the Granville Allen Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5837 delivered a new American flag to Butler County High School. The old flag was replaced ceremoniously as Commander Parker and Pharris instructed NJROTC Cadets Jesse Hudson and Hannah Grise on proper flag handling. The flag was accepted by Commander Harry Phelps.

The VFW works to provide flags to the community at schools, churches, fire departments, and to individuals. These flags often replace tattered ones. When asked for their thoughts, Commander Parker and Pharris expressed pride in providing this service to the community. While service is important to them, they also do this work to honor the flag as a symbol of our nation. “The American flag does not wave because of the wind, but rather the breath of fallen soldiers.”

Stoye Young, principal of Butler County High School, expresses his gratitude to the VFW and the veterans present on Tuesday. He is grateful for their help in allowing students to experience the flag ceremony. Mr. Young appreciates the partnership between Butler County High School and the community. He wants students to appreciate veterans and honor the American flag.
