VFW Auxiliary Post 5837 honors SPC Bill Childress as 2019 Veteran of the Year

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 5837 is honoring Bill Childress as its Veteran of the Year for 2019.

Bill joined the Kentucky Army National Guard June 17, 1979. He was credited with 31 years of service. He was a full-time maintenance tech for the Army National Guard for 20 yrs. in Bowling Green, KY. In 2004 he was activated and was sent to Iraq and then again in 2011. He is now retired from the military.

Bill was born in Butler County to Weldon and Cyrenia Brewer Childress and is one of nine children. He attended Butler County Schools.

Bill has been married to Edwinna (Edna) Neighbors for 36 years.  They have two daughters - Amanda Childress Costello (Chris) and Beverly Childress Shouse (Andrew) and also two wonderful grandchildren - Tristan and Cyrenia.

If you see Bill thank him for his service. These are a list of places that will be honoring all veterans.

1.      

Nov. 8 - Veteran of the Year Dinner sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary will be held at the Butler County Extension Office starting at 6 p.m. All veterans are invited to attend.

2.      Nov. 9 - Veterans Day Parade, starting 2 p.m. beginning at the Morgantown Elementary and following the usual route.

3.     

Nov. 9 - at 9 a.m. the Butler County Chapter DAR Veteran of the Year Breakfast in the Commons Area at Butler County High School

4.     

Nov. 9 - after the parade in the school cafeteria the Green River Chapter DAR will honor its Veterans

5.     

Nov. 11  - Butler County Wide School Program starting at 9 AM
