Various groups seek funds from Fiscal Court

Butler County Fiscal Court held a special meeting at the courthouse on Monday, May 12. All magistrates attended: Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Allen Smith, David Whittinghill, and Dillon Bryant.

Magistrate Dillon Bryant had two corrections to the minutes of previous meetings, which the court approved.

Steve Winkler and Tom Hood of the Boys and Girls Club addressed magistrates about the activities of the three clubs in Butler County. The Teen Center has 37 total members, Morgantown Elementary has 92 registered members, and North Butler Elementary has 76 registered members. The clubs offer Good Character & Citizenship programs, academic help, and promote healthy lifestyles. The club asks for a $12,000 annual donation from the court.  No action was taken at this meeting.

Leah Thompson of the Barren River Area Child Advocacy Center ( BRACAC) addressed the court concerning the services offered to Butler County. In 2024, the center significantly reduced child abuse and trauma by providing a safe, supportive environment where teams of professionals work together through a child-centered approach to pursue justice and offer hope and healing. The center served 15 children from Butler County.  Thompson asked for a $1,500 donation from the court.  No action was taken at this meeting.  

Magistrates approved a $90,000 contract with Friends of Butler County Animals (FOBCA) for running the animal shelter. This includes using the two buildings, maintaining the exterior of the facilities, providing building and vehicle insurance, and using the van.

After a lengthy discussion, the court approved the Annual Road Bid Materials for 2025-2026. Bids went to Caneyville Crushed Stone, Martin Marietta, Drakes, Energy Culvert, Asphalt Materials, Scotty's, and Flynn Brothers.


The court approved the following additional items:  

--Zetron Contract for E911

--Bills and Transfers

--Transfer $35,000 from the General Fund to the Jail Fund

--Treasurer's monthly settlement

--Waste Tire Grant

--Payment for Clerk's office flooring

--Woodbury RV Park Electric Work- Blanton Electric $22,536.85

--Payment to Revcord for E911- $3,991

 --Repairs to Rescue Squad Truck- C & L Used Cars $1,139.50
