US 231 widening project for Butler County underway

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (Feb. 6, 2013) – Contract crews initiated the beginning of the widening efforts for US 231 in Butler County this week with the installation of signage necessary for the reconstruction process.

Scotty’s Contracting and Stone, LLC, was awarded the $6.54 million project in November 2012 that entails widening US 231 to three lanes from the William H. Natcher Parkway to just south of Bell Street.

Work will begin within the next two to three weeks on the construction of retaining walls adjacent to the feed mill as well as the installation of a culvert to replace the bridge between McDonalds and Sonic.

Reconstruction work of the new road bed will begin on the south end of the project in the spring once all the utilities have been moved. In addition to the extra lane, the 1.5 mile improvement will include sidewalks on both sides of the highway.

Completion of the project is scheduled for the summer of 2014.
