UPDATE: Two fatalities from weekend crash; two released, others remain hospitalized

UPDATE 9/5/23:  Ohio County Sheriff Adam Wright says a mother and her 9-year-old son have died after a crash Saturday night near Cromwell.

 

Wright says his office responded to a call for a two-vehicle crash just after 6:00 p.m. Saturday. It happened in the 7000 block of Highway 231.

 

Officials say one of the cars had eight people inside. The mother, Eulalia Gomez, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her son, Christian Francisco, age nine, died from the crash. Two other children have been released from the hospital.

 

First responders had to call for additional ambulances from Butler County.

 

 

The sheriff says the eight-person car crashed into a vehicle with just one person inside. The driver of that car was taken to Ohio County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

ORIGINAL STORY 9/3/23: According to Ohio County Sheriff Adam Wright, as reported by 14 News-Evansville,  one person is dead and five others are in critical condition after a crash near Cromwell.  According to sources, a local Butler County family was involved in the accident.  Names are not being officially released at this time.  

In a Facebook post Sheriff Wright says his office responded to a call for a two-vehicle crash just after 6:00 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 231. 

According to 14 News-Evansville, one of the cars had eight people inside. One person  in that vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Three passengers, some children,  were airlifted to a Louisville hospital in critical condition; two others were taken to Louisville in ambulances, also in critical condition, according to 14 News. 

First responders had to call for additional ambulances from BC.

According to Sheriff Wright, the car with eight people crashed into a car with just one person inside. The driver of that car was taken to Ohio County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  

 

More details and information will be reported as it is made available by law enforcement officials.
