UK and WKU Participate in Project Prom Dodge Ball Fundraiser

The University of Kentucky and Western Kentucky University dodge ball teams met at Butler County High School Thursday Night to raise money for BCHS Project Prom.  With both teams ranking top 10 in the nation on their respected polls, the matchup made for a great night of dodge ball. UK brought an undefeated team into gym while WKU brought a team with many experienced players such as Butler County High School Alumni Nick Johnson.  Fans packed the top rows of the bleachers (in order to avoid getting hit by one of the 80mph rubber balls) to watch some intense dodge ball.

The event started with both collegiate teams lining the floor to play a couple of games with the kids.  Children were split up into age groups and then played 10 minutes of dodge ball.  Though the balls were not thrown 80mph, the games were still very entertaining for the parents in the crowd.

After each age group finished their game, both colleges began to warm up for their match.  In college dodge ball, two 25 minute halves are played.  At the end of the 2nd half, the team with the most wins has won the match.  Each game showcased spectacular catches and bizarre throws.  Even though Nick Johnson had a strong showing for WKU, UK edged out their opponents in 4 close games.  The event also had a concession stand and t-shirt sales.  At the end of the night, $1,200 was raised for BCHS Project Prom.

Last Friday, BCHS also hosted a Zumbathon fundraiser.  Many people came out for a night of Zumba and shopping at local vendor stations.  The event raised a total of $1,300 for BCHS Project Prom.

With that being said, BCHS Project Prom coordinator Katie Flener needs volunteers to help her with the event.  If you are interested please e-mail her at [email protected].  If you wish to help, you must contact her.  Mrs. Flener and the rest of BCHS would like to thank all those who attended both the dodge ball games and Zumbathon.
