TVA donates 550 Samsung tablets to MES

Supt. Howard, Principal Chad Flener, Travis Vincent, Bill Mills, and Mr. Harrison.

When 550 Samsung tablets were no longer used at Tennesse Valley Authority (TVA),  Travis Vincent, a Substation Maintenance Electrician, found them a new home at Morgantown Elementary.  Butler County Schools is one of only two schools in Kentucky that participate in the Partners in Energy program offered by TVA.

"I knew Butler County Schools were involved in the Leader In Me program," said Vincent.  "My wife Becky, who works at MES, had been to a training and mentioned how other schools were using tablets in school."

Bill Mills, the Bowling Green Transmission Service Center Manager, and Travis Vincent visited Mr. Marcus Harrison's fifth-grade class and witnessed a demonstration of how the tablets are being utilized in the classroom. Students were able to take individualized quizzes with immediate feed back provided to both the students and Mr. Harrison. Students from second to fifth grade are using the tablets.

"TVA was established to help the Tennesse Valley and this was a different way to invest into the community," said Vincent.

The donation, valued at $82,000,  included the 550 Samsung tablets, covers, and chargers.

TVA also invested in the Leader In Me Program and the Adult Education program.  Janet Tingley recently presented Mr. Scott Howard, Superintendent of Butler County Schools, a check in the amount of $3,000 on behalf of Tennessee Valley Authority Paradise Fossil Plant and TVA Construction, Projects & Services. This check was presented as a sponsorship for the Leader In Me Foundation in Butler County Schools.  In addition, Ms. Tingley, on behalf of TVA, contributed a check in the amount of $1,500, which was presented to the Butler County Adult Education Center.

"We want to thank TVA for their contributions to the students and future of Butler County," said Supt. Scott Howard.
