Traffic to be Shifted to New Ramps at Exit 22 on Sunday

Scottsville Road Interchange with I-65 nearing completion
For most of this year, the Scottsville Road/Exit 22 interchange has been under construction in an effort to improve traffic flow on and off  Interstate 65 as well as improve mobility along the busy corridor.  Motorists have watched over the last year as the interchange was transformed from a diamond interchange to a SPUI (single point urban interchange).

Beginning this Sunday night, motorists will get their first opportunity to drive on a little bit more of the new layout as traffic is moved to the new on and off ramps. Two lanes of traffic will be open for both directions on the bridge over Interstate 65.

Once the project is completed, all of the ramps will include two driving lanes while traffic across the bridge will ultimately have three lanes in each direction.

This is a relatively new interchange design for this part of the state and has created some conversation that basically boils down to, “How do I drive on that thing?”

A smaller SPUI was constructed at Plano along with the Natcher Parkway Extension project last fall but is considerably smaller than the one being constructed on Scottsville Road. The bridge deck at Plano’s overpass is approximately 153 feet wide while the new bridge deck for Scottsville Road/Exit 22 is 224 feet wide.

With a bridge deck span that wide, the new entry way into Warren County’s primary commercial district could prove to be a little daunting, especially for new drivers.

This video demonstrates the traffic movements for a single point urban interchange built on an arterial route that crosses over an interstate type facility, quite similar to what has been constructed at Scottsville Road and I-65.
