Tractor-trailer, SUV wreck on Natcher; southbound lane closed for hours

Slick road conditions contributed to a two-vehicle collision Monday evening sending one Butler County man to the hospital. The collision occurred at approximately 5:30 pm Monday evening in the south-bound lane of the William Natcher Parkway near mile-marker 34, just south of the Morgantown-Cromwell exit. The wreck left the south-bound lanes of the Natcher shut down for nearly four hours.

According to authorities, Jason and Erica Pelfrey of Greenbriar, Tennessee were traveling south on the Natcher Parkway just in front of the semi driven by Floyd Hatcher of Butler County. Their Edge hydroplaned, causing the Pelfrey's to hit the guardrail. The SUV then bounced off of the guardrail where it was struck by the semi. The semi then left the roadway, taking out several feet of guardrail, where it traveled down an embankment, overturned, and struck several trees.

Hatcher was transported from the scene by Butler County EMS to Bowling Green for treatment of his injuries. The Pelfrey's refused medical treatment.

Traffic was shut down at the Morgantown-Cromwell exit to all south-bound traffic until around 10:00 pm. Crews on the scene had to wait for the EPA to arrive before they could begin to clean up the tractor-trailer wreckage.

Responding to the scene were Butler County Sheriff's Deputies Heath West and Chris Reneer, Butler County EMS, Butler County Rescue Squad, Morgantown Fire Department, Emergency Management Director Terry Hunt, and a crew with the Ky Department of Transportation.
