Tiffany Hampton: Life in Logansport

Have you ever had one of those moments when you suddenly realize that you're not a kid anymore? The old saying goes, "you're as old as you feel." Most days I feel that I'm still a teenager. That is, of course, after I get out of bed and stretch and moan my way downstairs to some good caffeine to get my day started! After that has been accomplished, then I'm good to go.

The moments that we realize we aren't a kid anymore usually consist of the normal day to day routines of going to work instead of school, paying bills instead of doing homework, watching the matinee instead of the late movie, and my personal favorite, you catch yourself saying and doing things that your mom/dad done!!! I have to say that probably not a day goes by that I don't catch myself sounding just like my mom sometimes...this isn't a bad thing at all! Rather, it's an eye opener to myself and how I must have drove her crazy sometimes! Just this week I made a Christmas wreath and needed something to tie the bow. My first thought was to find a bread tie. The very next day I was fixing a bow on another wreath, which my mom had made for me. As I grabbed the bow to repair it, you guessed...it was tied with a bread tie as well!! Small moments like these, I realize that I must not be a kid anymore.

With each birthday I become more aware of straining my eyes, clothes fitting somewhat differently, and I seem to be catching up with people who I always considered "older" than me. I found myself standing in my kitchen the other day, reading a cookbook! Not just flipping through it, but reading it...and enjoying it! I'm finding that it really is true, that somethings just come with age.

Growing older should always be considered a blessing. Each new day gives us new adventures, new opportunities, and even another chance. We can always be a kid at heart no matter what our age. After all, it's a kids heart that is honest, forgiving, unconditionally loving, and just simply happy.
