Three Accidents, One Fatality

Three accidents were reported on Rochester Road on Wednesday, September 13th. Butler County EMS, Morgantown Fire Department, Butler County Rescue Squad, and Butler County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Reneer responded.

David Ryan Wood, 18 of Lewisburg was traveling westbound on KY 70 Rochester Road in the 4000 block. He lost control of his vehicle causing a 31 foot sideways skid before crossing the eastbound lane and going off the roadway. The vehicle continued for 63 feet before striking a tree. Wood was found unresponsive in the driver's seat secured by his seatbelt. He was extricated by the Butler County Rescue Squad and the Morgantown Fire Department. Wood was transported by Butler County EMS to the Medical Center and succumbed to his injuries at 11:07 pm. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Chad's Wrecker Service.

A 2004 Chevy Trailblazer was traveling westbound on KY 70 Rochester Road in the 3000 block. Driver James Michael Ferguson, 64 of Morgantown, stated to law enforcement officials he lost control of his vehicle due to the roadway being wet. Ferguson overcorrected and crossed the eastbound lane and struck a rock-cut ditch. Upon striking the ditch, the vehicle struck an earth embankment and overturned coming to final rest overturned in the eastbound lane. Ferguson and his passenger Angela Sue Ferguson, 66 of Morgantown refused treatment or transport from Butler County EMS. The vehicle was removed from the scene by JT Wheel & Tire.

David Lynn Coots, 59 of Cromwell, was traveling westbound on Ky 70 Rochester Road in the 3000 block. Coots stated that he observed the vehicle flipped in the roadway and lost control of his vehicle when he applied his brakes. The 2006 F150 Ford crossed the eastbound lane and went off the road and into a ditch without making contact with the flipped vehicle. Coots was able to drive from the scene after being pulled from the ditch by Chad's Wrecker Service.
