There’s Still Time to Plan for 4-H Camp

Lloyd G. Saylor, County Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development

Once again, it=s time for 4-H Camp, and if you haven’t gotten your application in, now is the time to do so!!  Last year, over 100 youth and adults from Butler County attended 4-H Camp at Dawson Springs.  Our camping dates this year are July 16 - July 20, 2012 and we still have spots remaining.

What is 4-H Camp?  It is one week of fun-filled activities for youth from fourth through eighth grade.  Youth participate in classes ranging from rifle marksmanship, swimming, boating, nature study, horse riding, arts and crafts through foods, first aid and classes on various sports.  We also have low-elements and high elements challenge courses.  The Challenge Courses are based on a series of obstacles in which the goal is to get an entire group of 4-Her's through to the objective together.

While at camp, youth stay in modern, attractive facilities with cafeteria-style meals.  Each cabin is staff with at least one adult and one teen leader.  Each camp is also staffed with an emergency medical technician on site 24 hours a day in the event of an emergency, certified lifeguards and instructors for nature and recreation.  Adult volunteers may serve as cabin counselor or can share their talents and skills by being a camp instructor or taking other leadership roles.

4-H Camp is an exciting, fun-filled, safe educational opportunity for Butler County youth.  The cost is $164 ($149 camp fee plus $14 bus transportation) which is about half of most one-week camps.  Applications are available from the Butler County Extension Office.

For more information contact the Butler County Extension Office at 112 E GL Smith Street, Morgantown or call 526-3767.

Educational programs of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service serve all people regardless of race, color, age, sex, disability, or national origin.
