Tackle the Green: $5K Fishing Tournament to kick off this weekend

Although the Green River Catfish Festival will be absent this year, the annual fishing tournament will still be in full swing.

With 50 tagged fish, there is over $15,000 in tagged fish value.

June 25th – 27th, Tackle the Green – Green River Catfish Tournament will be held as a part of the Butler County 2021 Fair.  Each day of the tournament begins at 6:00 a.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m.  The fishing tournament requires you to purchase a ticket and having a ticket will allow you to be eligible for prizes.  Tickets must be signed at the time of purchase and all tickets will be checked prior to the start of the tournament.  This is to ensure all signatures are signed and visible.  Tickets can be purchased at Aberdeen Grocery, Drake’s Farm Service, Hack’s Crossroads Market, Morgantown City Hall, Triple C Pawn, and Gander Outdoor of Bowling Green.

Along with winning money for catching tagged catfish, daily drawings will take place where you can win money or prizes.  Prizes given for the daily drawings include Gander Outdoors gift cards and products.  Some of the daily drawings are Goose Egg, Entering the River, Youth (16 or under) who catches the largest tagged or non-tagged catfish, veteran who catches the largest tagged or non-tagged catfish, and biggest tagged or non-tagged catfish.  There will also be a prize for the 2nd and 3rd place prize for biggest tagged or non-tagged catfish.

There will be Special Awards and Drawings ceremonies held on June 27, 2021, at 6:30 p.m.  If you are a winner, you must be present on June 27th at 6:30 p.m. to collect your prize.  Drawings that are taking place on the 27th are for anyone who purchased a fishing ticket, purchasing a fishing ticket at Gander Outdoors, entering the river all three days of the tournament, and overall goose egg.  The prizes from the drawings range from $50 to $1,000 value.

Like any tournament, there are rules and regulations that must be followed throughout the course of this event.  Participants must have a valid Kentucky fishing license and must follow all the rules and regulations of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife.  There will be no person to take a fish by any other method than a pole and line in hand.  You cannot use commercial gear, trout lines, nets, etc.  During the tournament, the river and contest will be under constant surveillance by officials of the county and the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife.  Lastly, the fish must be caught within the times of the tournament and be presented alive and in good condition to the Aberdeen Boat Ramp check-in station.  If you are in violation of any rules and regulations, you will be disqualified from the tournament.  For a detailed list of rules and regulations, obtain a copy from ticket purchase areas or contact the chamber of commerce at (270)526-6827 or [email protected].
