Supt. Scott Howard reassures school community amid COVID-19 pandemic

Dear Butler County School Family:

Thank you for allowing me a few minutes to share this message with each of you.  We know that we are experiencing a time like we have never seen before. I am sure you are like me in regards to feeling so many emotions as we battle COVID-19.  I wanted to express how much every employee misses all of the children. I hope that we will all be back together soon. WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS TOGETHER!

Our Butler County School Nutrition Director, Mrs. Kaitlin Harrison and nutrition staff from each of the schools continue to do a tremendous job.  They have prepared and delivered over 20,000 meals in the last couple of weeks. Words can’t express how important all of these ladies are, not only to our school district, but to our entire community.

I want to thank our Transportation Director and Transportation Secretary, Mr. Jeff Jennings and Mrs. Cindy McCoy.  All of our bus drivers and monitors are doing some great work in making sure food is delivered in a way that makes it as easy as possible for every parent and guardian.  WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS TOGETHER!

Our Principals, teachers, and support staff are second to none.  I have witnessed how much they care and love kids on a daily basis.  While Non-Traditional Instruction was never designed to last for 20-30 days, our teachers have been phenomenal with creating rich instructional activities.  They have contacted kids and parents. It is important for us to provide the best instruction possible during this time, but more than that, we need to make sure everyone’s social and emotional well-being is priority one on our radar.  I am so proud of all the employees at each school. WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS TOGETHER!

I know there are many questions about going back to school.  I am still optimistic that we will. It will depend on what the data looks like over the next couple of weeks for our state and country.  I know our Senior Class is on everyone’s mind. I think about them every day. I want to make sure we do everything in our power to recognize them.  In the next few weeks, I expect we will have a better idea about Graduation and what that may look like.

I want to say “THANK YOU” to all of our health care workers, first responders, members of the Butler County Ambulance Service, Law Enforcement, and elected officials of Morgantown and Butler County.  These groups and the simple fact that Butler County comes together in the most resilient way anytime we face difficulty are the reasons our hometown is the best. WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS TOGETHER!

If you have any questions, concerns, or needs, please don’t hesitate to call 270-526-5624 or my cell number 270-999-2251.  Even though we know the next few weeks will be tough. It is so important that we follow all of the rules from the Department of Public Health, CDC, Governor, and President.  We will come out of this horrible pandemic stronger and better than ever before.

Take care and be safe,

Scott Howard, Superintendent

Butler County Schools
