Supt. Robert Tuck: Building, Collaborating, and Shaping Our Future Together

As we are preparing for the start of the 2024-2025 school year, I want to extend a warm welcome back to our students, parents, and staff. The Mission of Butler County Schools centers on Building… Collaborating… and Shaping.

Our primary goal is to provide quality instruction to our students in a safe and welcoming environment.  Our team has prepared facilities, updated and amended policies and procedures, and altered educational and operational practices to make certain our schools will operate in the safest and most productive environment possible.

We are excited about the continued rollout of our "Portrait of a Learner" for Butler County Schools. This integrated learning experience is a cornerstone of our educational philosophy, designed to outline the qualities and skills we aspire to for every learner in our community to develop.

The "Portrait of a Learner" is more than just a framework; it reflects our commitment to fostering well-rounded, engaged, and capable individuals. It represents the competencies and durable skills we believe are essential for success in today’s dynamic world. Our Portrait of a Learner is linked to the Mission, Vision, and Values of Butler County Schools.

What Are the Competencies the Portrait Includes?

  • Character: Personal and professional conduct.

  • Problem Solving: Informed ideas and effective solutions.

  • Communication: Information exchange and management.

  • Collaboration: Teamwork and connection.

  • Global Citizenship: Mindsets of improvement and aspiration that directs efforts and delivers results.

Our goal is to integrate these competencies into our curriculum and daily interactions, ensuring that every learner is equipped not only with academic knowledge but with the essential skills to thrive personally and professionally. The competencies have durable skills associated with them. Below are the competencies and durable skills linked to each competency.

Butler County Schools believes that achieving this goal requires the collective effort of our entire community.  We are excited and appreciative of the solid partnership we have with local leaders and industry. This partnership brings together our vision for the "Portrait of a Learner" with the vibrant expertise of our local industries. This partnership is a significant step towards enhancing the educational experiences of our students and aligning their skills with real-world applications. For example, this past school year our freshman and sophomores had the opportunity to visit local businesses in the field of agriculture, business, automotive, medical, construction, and industry.  This partnership provided our students with firsthand exposure to our “Portrait of a Learner” through direct interactions with local industry and business leaders. By integrating learning experiences like this throughout K-12 learning, we aim to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of how the skills and attributes outlined in the "Portrait of a Learner" are applied and valued in the real world. We believe that these experiences will not only enhance students' educational journeys but also prepare them to be successful, adaptable, and informed individuals ready to thrive in their future careers.  We invite you to engage in this process, share your thoughts, and support our students as they grow into confident, competent, and compassionate individuals.

Throughout the classrooms and hallways of Butler County Schools, our next generation of workers and leaders of the future in all walks of life flourish: business, engineering, education, law, health care, arts and humanities, trade and skilled work, etc…. What we know, and what makes Butler County special, is that we do not need to look to the future to see leadership. We see advocacy, leadership, innovation, and student-led change today - in our schools, in our extra-curricular events, and across our community.  Ultimately, we must keep the needs and supports for our students as our common ground and focus as we continue to evolve as a district.  In the end, we know we cannot do these tremendous things without one another.

Thank you for your continued support as we embark on this exciting journey. Together, we can make a profound impact on our students’ growth and future success.  As we continue to work together, we will build our community by becoming One Team, with One Vision, that will make us Butler Strong.
