What better way to celebrate the start of summer than fellowship with your community with free food, music, and more? This was the scene at the kickoff Summer Social this past Saturday. Summer Socials, presented by the City of Morgantown, were started last summer, with great turnout throughout the season. This year’s kickoff featured the addition of the Miss Morgantown Pageant. The event began with the Morgantown Farmers Market, featuring a plethora of homemade and homegrown goodies for purchase. With something for everyone, swimming was free throughout the day, at the Morgantown City Pool. There were bouncy houses for kids, as well as games for kids sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club. Pickleball, cornhole and disc golf tournaments were held for the competitive folks in the community. Free hotdogs, chips and drinks were provided for lunch with food trucks available for supper and ice cream andsnow cones, with the first 100 served receiving their dessert for free! Free entertainment was provided by Lydia Jenkins, featuring LEETOWN. Friends of Butler County Animals also sponsored a free adoption event at the Social, where the City of Morgantown paid for the over 20 pet adoptions.
