Students recognized by BC DAR at 41st Annual Silver Tea Awards

Lynda Knight, Chapter Regent, welcomes audience

On April 26th the Butler Country DAR Chapter held their 41st annual Silver Tea Awards.  The Silver Tea Awards honor the youth and education leaders for the leadership and achievements in writing, art, citizenship, and various activities in education. DAR member Kyllie Doughty explained, “It’s excited to see these young men and women honored for their achievements. The future of Butler County is bright, and the students here tonight prove that!”
 
Peggy Drake began with the recognition of the conservation district winners in writing.

Aubrey Hall (1st place in conservation writing from Morgantown Elementary)

Tori Hampton (1st place in conservation writing from Butler County Middle School)

Next Laura Crafton honored the Junior American Citizens (JAC) winners. “These students have excelled in the areas of poster, stamp, and poem creation.” Crafton explained.
 

The night continued with Kyllie Doughty presenting the Good Citizen awards for Butler County Middle School to Ernest Lee, Zoie Pendley, and Madison Wells.

Lynda O’Driscoll presented the NJROTC award to Paula Hiliker, a Junior at BCHS.

Vice Regent, Jane Easton-Henderson presented the New Frontiers of Education award to Hollie Coleman, a Junior at BCHS.

Next, Georgia Romans presented the Outstanding American History Teacher award to Mrs. Amy Smith-Thomas. “I would like to thank Mr. Howard and Mr. Jennings for allowing me to use my ideas in the classroom.” Smith-Thomas explained. “I love my students and teaching American History!”


Jennifer Odle presented the Outstanding History Student of 2012 to Laura Hunt, a Junior at BCHS.

Jane Smith presented the DAR Good Citizen award to Madison Embry, a Senior at BCHS.

To end the night, Scholarship Chairman Gail Gaddie presented the Butler County Chapter DAR Scholarship to Noah Gary. Gaddie said, “It is fitting that this scholarship goes to Noah, who is majoring in education.”
