Stop the Violence at BCHS

Throughout the week of December 3rd through 7th, Butler County High School hosted a Stop the Violence Week which informed students about ways to recognize and prevent school bullying. This week was a project to implement the FCCLA national program in action Stop the Violence. Throughout the week students were encouraged students to stop bullying and report any bullying they saw. Each day was of a different theme, all encouraging the stopping of school bullying. They kicked off the week by having everyone sign a banner pledging to stop school bullying. The next day was Team Up Against Violence, students wore their favorite sports team attire. Wednesday was Put Violence to Sleep day, students participated by wearing their pajamas. Thursday was Pay it Forward day. On this day students were encouraged to give compliments to people they didn’t normally talk to and whoever they complimented got a sticker and a roll of stickers to compliment others! The week ended by having a FACT day. This day consisted of scavenger hunt where students found slips of paper tapped randomly around the school informing students of facts about bullying and also ways to prevent it. (Some of these facts are shown in below) Whenever the student found a fact they would bring it to Mrs. Embry’s room and receive a small prize. Overall this week was very successful in informing the Butler County High School student population about bullying and ways to prevent it.

How To Tell If Someone Is Being Bullied
 • If a person has injuries they cannot explain.
• If the person’s grades begin to decline or if they become uninterested in school.
• When a person suddenly seems to have no friends.
• If a person develops unusually low self-esteem or uncommon behavior.
• If a person continually fakes injury or illness to try to get out of school.

Ways to Prevent Bullying
1. Be positive! Bullies tend to pick on people with low self-esteem. Keep a smile on your face!
2. Don’t ignore it. Never assume that the person is just joking.
3. Always stay calm. Don’t try to scream at the bully, it may lead to an even bigger fight.
4. ALWAYS tell a trusted adult when you thing someone is being bullied!!!
