SOFTBALL: Butler County starts week with three wins; Bears now 14-9-2 on season

With wins over Owensboro, Todd County Central and Russellville, the Butler County Bears jump started a good week of softball as the 2016 season enters its final three weeks.
On Thursday, May 5, the Bears used a big fourth inning to beat Russellville 11-3 at home. 
A seven-run explosion in the fourth inning proved to be the difference. 
The Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. A single by Maddie McKinney, bringing home Madison Clark started the inning off.
Butler County scored in the fourth on a two-run single by Cheyenne White, a two-run single by Abigail Fry, an error, an RBI-single by Olivia Jones, and a fielder's choice.
The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to four lead changes in the game.
Butler County pulled out the win thanks to a strong second inning. The Bears went up for good on an RBI single by Madison Clark, scoring Callie Cardwell.  Clark reached base four times, scored two runs, and had one RBI. 
Zoie Pendley got it done in the circle on the way to a win. She allowed three runs over seven innings. She struck out one, walked two and surrendered six hits.

Bears beat Todd 9-2


Butler County turned in one of its better performances of the year on Tuesday, May 3, in securing a 9-2 road win against Todd County Central. 
Butler County scored three runs in the fifth on a two-run double by Olivia Jones and an RBI-single by Madison Clark.
Maddie McKinney reached base three times. She scored one run and had one RBI. She singled in the first inning and doubled in the fourth inning.
Zoie Pendley picked up the win for Butler County. Pendley allowed one earned run, four hits and no walks while striking out none over seven innings of work.
Butler County went up for good in the first, scoring two runs early.

Bears rout Owensboro 10-0 in five innings


Butler County beat Owensboro 10-0 in five innings on Monday, May 2, after a seven-run explosion in the fourth inning.
The Bears scored in the fourth on a two-run triple by Taylor King, a two-run single by Abigail Fry, an RBI-single by Tori McKinney, and an RBI-double by Callie Cardwell.
King had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits.
Pitcher Zoie Pendley kept Owensboro off the scoreboard for all five innings she was in the circle. She pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out two.
The Bears were sparked by Madison Clark and Cheyenne White, who teamed up for six hits and five RBIs.
Butler County never trailed after scoring one run in the first on an RBI-single by White.
The Bears scored one run in the third inning, and then followed it up with one more in the fifth. In the third, Butler County scored on a groundout by White, scoring Clark.

Bears fall in extra innings to Edmonson


A four-run fourth inning gave Butler County the lead on Thursday, April 28, against Edmonson County but it wasn't one the Bears could hold as the Lady 'Cats came from behind to tie the game in the top of the seventh and win it 6-4 in extra innings. 
Callie Cardwell racked up two RBIs on two hits for Butler County. She singled in the second and fourth innings.
Zoie Pendley took the loss for Butler County. She allowed six runs in eight innings, walked none and struck out three.
The top of the second saw Edmonson County take an early lead, 2-0, before the Bears battled back to take a 4-3 lead.  Edmonson tied the game in the 7th inning.  The Bears had a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the 7th but the game-winning hit proved elusive.  The Lady 'Cats scored two runs in the 8th to secure the 6-4 win.

Bears lose 7-2 at Logan


Butler County got down early on Tuesday, April 26, and couldn't battle back against a tough Logan County team. 
After pushing across one run in the top of the fifth, Butler County faced just a 3-1 deficit. It didn't take long for Logan County to respond as it scored three runs of its own in the fifth. Logan County scored on an error and a two-run double.
An RBI-single by Cheyenne White led to another Butler County run in the 6th inning.
Zoie Pendley was charged with the loss. She allowed seven runs in six innings, walked one and struck out four.

Bears get nine hits in 6-5 win over Trinity


Butler County and Trinity (Whitesville) both threatened with rallies, but it was the Bears that eventually took advantage of them in a 6-5 win on Friday, April 22.
Trinity got 11 hits compared with just nine for Butler County but Trinity stranded nine on base.
Butler County would not relinquish the lead as Trinity was unable to weather a four-run fourth inning deficit.
Trinity scored three runs in the sixth on an RBI single but wasn't able to take the lead back.
Madison Clark had two extra-base hits for Butler County. She doubled in the first inning, tripled in the fourth inning, and singled in the second and fifth innings.
Zoie Pendley got the win for Butler County.  She allowed five runs over seven innings. Pendley struck out three, walked none and surrendered 11 hits.
Butler County's offense was sparked by Clark and Abigail Fry, who teamed up for seven hits and four RBIs.
Trinity jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first.  Butler County answered Trinity's top inning with two runs of their own in the first. The Bears scored on an RBI-single by Maddie McKinney and an RBI-single by Fry.
Butler County never trailed after scoring four runs in the fourth on a fielder's choice, an RB- single by Fry, and a two-run triple by Clark.

Bears drop 11-4 contest to Muhlenberg

Catcher Cheyenne White had a two-hit game, but the Bears dropped a 11-4 contest to Muhlenberg County on Tuesday, April 19.
The top of the first saw Butler County take an early 1-0 lead. A single by White, scoring Madison Clark started the inning off.
The game's last lead went to Muhlenberg County thanks to a first inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on a two-run home run.
Muhlenberg County increased its lead with four runs in the fourth.
Three runs in the top of the fifth helped Butler County close their deficit to 8-4. A groundout by Maddie McKinney and a two-run single by White sparked the rally.
Zoie Pendley took the loss. She allowed 11 runs in six innings, walked one and struck out three.

Butler County outpaces Ohio County in 7-2 win


Despite falling behind 2-1 after the first inning, Butler County was able to pull out a 7-2 win over Ohio County on Monday, April 18.
Butler County took the lead in the second inning and held on for the victory. The Bears scored on an RBI-triple by Madison Clark, scoring Ashlynne Brooks, who had doubled.
Clark was hot from the plate for Butler County, going 3-4, driving in one and scoring two runs.
Zoie Pendley earned the win for Butler County. Pendley allowed one earned run, five hits and one walk while striking out five over seven innings of work.
Butler County jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Clark kicked things off for the Bears with a single.  An RBI-double by Brooks plated sparked the Bears' offense in the second inning, where the Bears grabbed the lead for good. 
Butler County added three more runs in the top of the fifth. The inning proved promising as Abigail Fry doubled, scoring Maddie McKinney and Dixie Garnier (pinch runner) to kick things off. That was followed up by Tori McKinney's single, plating Fry.
