SOFTBALL: Butler County beats Edmonson 2-0 in key district win

With a strong one-hit performance by pitcher Morgan Manning and a clutch hit by Hannah Peach, Butler County (13-4) made it six in a row on Tuesday night with a 2-0 win over 12th District rival Edmonson County at Morgantown.

Both teams threatened to score in the early innings but were unable to get the break-out hit when they needed it.  The Lady Cats had bases loaded with no outs in the third, but the Bears' defense and Manning's pitching stepped up to hold Edmonson scoreless.

Hannah Peach helped the Bears take the lead in the sixth inning with a double that hit the fence.  The inning started with Lynsie Clark taking a walk to get on base in the sixth. She then went from first to second on a sacrifice bunt by Manning and scored on Peach's hit. Jazmin Reynolds hit a single to score Madison "Boo" Clark, pinch runner for Peach.

The Bears retired Edmonson in order in the seventh to clinch the 2-0 win.

Manning gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none, hit one batter, and struck out two in seven innings of work.
