SOFTBALL: Bears take runner-up in 12th District Tournament; lose to Daviess in region
After having to postpone the 12th District Softball Tournament for two days due to rain, the event was held all in one day last week with Butler County coming from behind to defeat Trinity 12-6 before falling to Grayson County 3-0 in the championship game. The tournament was played Friday, May 26, with Butler County as the host school. The first-round district win allowed the Bears to advance to the 3rd Region Tournament at Muhlenberg County. Butler County fell 13-0 in five innings to powerhouse Daviess County on Memorial Day.
In the Bears' opening district game, Trinity took an early lead before the Bears battled back and prevailed 12-6. Trinity scored a run in the first and three in the second. However, Butler County took the lead for good in the sixth inning. The game was tied at 6-6 when Maddie McKinney doubled to give her team the lead. Cheyenne White ripped a bases-loaed, bases-clearing double (3-RBI) in the sixth to break open the game. Tori McKinney also blasted a two-run home run over the left-center fence in the second inning. Madison Clark (2B), Hannah Chaney, Olivia Jones and Tori McKinney (2B) each had multiple hits for Butler County. Amber Thacker also had a single.
Zoie Pendley started the game for Butler County. She pitched four innings, allowed two earned runs, ten hits, struck out one and walked none. Pitching in relief, Kylee Smith recorded the win. She pitched three innings, allowed no earned runs, three hits, struck out one and walked none.

With just a few minutes in between games, Butler County then turned its attention to the Grayson County Cougars for the 12th District Championship game. Butler County got behind early in this one and the Bears' offense wasn't able to get on the board, losing 3-0.
Amber Thacker, Cheyenne White, Madison Clark and Dixie Garnier each recorded singles but it wasn't enough to get a run across the plate.
Pendley took the pitching loss for Butler County, allowing eight hits and two earned runs in 3.2 innings of work. Kylee Smith pitched 2.1 innings in relief, allowing no hits or earned runs.

Butler County's Maddie McKinney, Madison "Boo" Clark, and Olivia Jones were named to the 12th District All Season Team. Clark and Tori McKinney made the 12th District All Tournament Team. Zoie Pendley was named to the 12th District All-Academic Team.

With a district runner-up finish, the Bears earned an opportunity to play in the 3rd Region Tournament. Butler County squared off against Daviess County on Memorial Day and ended up on the bad end of a 13-0 score.
Hannah Chaney had two of the Bears' four hits - both singles. Amber Thacker and Madison Clark both singled as well. Chaney was named to the 3rd Region All Tournament Team.

Pendley took the loss in the circle. She pitched 1.2 innings, allowed six hits and four earned runs. Smith pitched 2.1 innings, allowed six hits and three earned runs.

Butler County Softball finished the season with an overall 16-16 record. The Bears were 10-8 against 3rd Region opponents and finished 5-3 in district competition.
