SOFTBALL: Bears go 2-1 in round-robin; hold off Trinity 7-5 in district win

The last several days have been busy ones for the Butler County Softball team as the Bears hosted a round-robin tournament on Saturday, April 1, and a district game on Tuesday, April 4.  Butler County defeated Thomas Nelson 9-0, fell 15-5 to Montini Catholic (IL), beat Nelson County 12-0, and outlasted a late surge from Trinity (Whitesville) to earn the 7-5 district win.

Butler County jumped out to a six-run lead in the fourth inning and held on for a 7-5 victory on Tuesday, April 4.  Trinity scored four runs in the sixth inning and were threatening in the 7th before the Bears closed out the win. 

Hannah Chaney drove in four runs and was 3-for-4 at the plate.  She homered in the first, doubled in the second, and singled in the fourth. 

The Bears scored four runs in the second on a singled by Amber Thacker and Chaney's double. 

Butler County's offense produced ten hits - Chaney, Thacker and Zoie Pendley each had multiple hits. 

Pendley earned the win in the circle.  She tossed seven innings, allowed five runs, six hits, struck out seven, and walked one. 

With the win, Butler County improved to 2-0 in district play.

Senior pitcher Zoie Pendley didn't allow a single run as Butler County defeated Thomas Nelson 9-0 on Saturday, April 1.  Pendley allowed just four hits.  The Bears grabbed an early lead on singles by Cheyenne White and Tori McKinney.  Butler County's big inning came in the fifth with five runs thanks to a single by Maddie McKinney, a fielder's choice by Zoie Pendley, a single by Amber Thacker, and a single by Madison Clark. 

Pendley earned the win.  She threw six innings, allowed no runs, four hits, struck out two, and walked one. 

Butler County had ten hits for the game:  Hannah Chaney, Maddie McKinney, Cheyenne White, and Tori McKinney each collected multiple hits for Butler County.

Butler County fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 15-5 loss to Montini Catholic on Saturday.  Montini captured the lead early, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings. 

Butler County had ten hits - Madison Clark, Olivia Jones, and Tori McKinney each had multiple hits.  Jones went 2 for 3 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. 

Zoie Pendley took the loss for Butler County as she pitched four innings and allowed ten runs on 15 hits.  Pitching in relief, sophomore Kylee Smith threw two innings, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits.

Butler County rallied from an earlier loss to defeat Nelson County 12-0 on Saturday as pitchers Zoie Pendley and Kylee Smith combined to throw a shut-out. 

The Bears struck early as Hannah Chaney ripped a tw0-run homer in the first inning.  Butler County scored five runs in the fourth inning on singles by Madison Clark, Hannah Chaney and Cheyenne White. 

Butler Count recorded ten hits:  White, Chaney, and Maddie McKinney each collected multiple hits for the Bears.  Chaney went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. 

Pendley earned the win for Butler County.  She pitched four innings, allowed no runs, gave up three hits, struck out six, and walked none.  Smith recorded the last three outs to close out the game for the Bears.

Butler County (5-3) will travel to Clarksville, TN this weekend to play in the Tennessee's Coaches' Association Annual Tournament.  The Bears will host two home games next week - Muhlenberg County on Monday and Edmonson County on Tuesday.

The JV Bears (3-2) picked up a 2-1 win over Trinity on Tuesday after taking the lead late in the game.  Butler County was trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning when Autumn Proctor roped a tw0-run homer to give the Bears the lead.

Kylee Smith earned the win in the circle with five strong innings.  She gave up one run, three hits, struck out six, and walked one.  Proctor and Alford each collected one hit for Butler County.
