Softball: Bears finish 12th District Runner-Up

BROWNSVILLE - Butler County was limited to one hit as Grayson County held on to win 2-0 in the 12th District Softball Tournament title game at Edmonson County High School on Thursday. With the loss, Butler County dropped to 18-10. Grayson County improved to 17-8 with the win. Both Grayson County and Butler County advance to the 3rd Region Softball Tournament.
Kylee Smith, one of the top softball pitchers in the 3rd Region, started the game in the circle for Butler County and recorded 18 outs. But the Bears couldn't produce enough offensively to claim the district title.
Bayleigh Alford provided Butler County's lone hit in the third inning when she singled. Embry Thorpe earned the pitching win for the Lady Cougars. Thorpe surrendered zero runs on one hit over seven innings, striking out 13 and walking one. Smith took the pitching loss for the Bears. She lasted six innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out two and walking zero. Grayson County outhit the Bears 5-1 and finished error-free in the field. Thorpe and four of her teammates provided one hit apiece for the Grayson County in the victory. Grayson County broke open a scoreless game in the bottom half of the third inning, plating a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead. Butler County committed four errors in the setback.

Tori McKinney was named to the All Academic Team with a 4.0 GPA.  Kylee Smith, Olivia Jones, and Hannah Chaney were named to the All-Season Team.  Kylee Smith, Olivia Jones and Dixie Garnier were named to the 12th All-Tournament Team.
Butler County will play Meade County in the opening round of the 3rd Region Tournament on Monday, May 28th at 12:00 pm at McLean County.
