Smith no-hits Edmonson County, Bears earn district win

MORGANTOWN - Butler County junior pitcher Kylee Smith tossed a no-hitter as the Bears defeated visiting Edmonson County 12-0 in five innings in a 12th District softball game on Tuesday.
With the win, Butler County improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the 12th District.
Edmonson County dropped to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in the district with the loss.
Smith recorded three strikeouts and didn't walk anyone as she recorded the win.

Setting the tone early, Butler County plated six runs in the bottom half of the first inning. Dominant Butler County led 10-0 at the conclusion of its second at-bat.
Autumn Proctor helped to lead the Bears to the victory by driving in four runs. Proctor went 2-for-2 at the plate. She drove in runs on a double in the first inning and a home run in the second frame.
Edmonson County pitcher Josilyn Morrison suffered the loss. Morrison allowed 13 hits and 12 runs over four innings, striking out three and walking one.
Butler County smacked two home runs in the district triumph. In addition to Proctor's homer, Bayleigh Alford belted a home run for the Bears in the opening inning.
Butler County collected 13 hits. Proctor, Alford, Olivia Jones, Aleace Hall and Hannah Chaney delivered two hits apiece for the Bears in the victory.

Butler County claimed its sixth straight win. Headed in the opposite direction, Edmonson County suffered its sixth consecutively loss.
Butler County is slated to visit Edmonson County for another 12th District softball game on May 8.
Both Butler County and Edmonson County will compete in the 12th District Softball Tournament in May.
