Signature/MCRC: Proactive in COVID-19 fight

Louisville, Ky.- May 22, 2020- One of the greatest sources of inspiration and hope, no matter what the darkest challenge may be, is a victory! Since its first confirmed positive case on April 6th, Signature HealthCARE of Morgantown has been in a proactive battle with this virulent enemy we call Coronavirs and its related illness, COVID-19. We are now elated to announce, Signature HealthCARE of Morgantown doesn’t have just one victory, it has 75 and counting!

As of the release of this statement, Signature HealthCARE of Morgantown has had a total of 144 positive COVID-19 cases including 100 residents and 44 staff members. Of those 100 residents, 36 have since recovered and have been moved off the COVID-19 only unit. Of the 44 staff members, 39 have recovered and, their calling remaining strong, the majority returned to work to fight the virus that fought them. While CDC guidelines only require one negative test to deem a resident COVID-free, out of an abundance of caution and the utmost safety for all, Signature HealthCARE’s company standard is two negative tests. We believe that proactive protocol has resulted in the most encouraging news of all, that Signature HealthCARE of Morgantown has not had any new positive resident cases in the last 23 days and no new positive staff cases in 17 days.

Signature HealthCARE of Morgantown believes a great deal of this success lies within the facility’s initiation of a facility-wide test-based strategy; testing all residents and staff after the first confirmed cases. This has since become the standard testing strategy for Signature HealthCARE. Additionally, the creation of a separate COVID-19 only unit at the facility has proven instrumental.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our resilient and compassionate staff members,” said Amy Phelps, CEO and Administrator for Signature HealthCARE of Morgantown. “This has been a difficult and trying time for my patients, families and employees, however, at the end of the day, everyone knows Signature HealthCARE of Morgantown isn’t backing down and we will strive to make the most proactive decisions possible and have the best interest of the patients and staff in mind, always.”

Signature HealthCARE of Morgantown understands this virus can change within hours. But there is no mistaking that progress is being made at the facility against the Coronavirus and our residents and staff are seeing subsequent positive results. While these results are exhilarating, we cannot forget those of our Morgantown family who have passed. This virus has taken the lives of 10 of our beloved residents. The loss of any resident, for whatever reason, is devastating to us all. Few words can explain the impact for our facility, but more importantly, their families. But we at Signature HealthCARE of Morgantown will honor their lives, in the way we continue to fight this virus and refuse to relent until the very last positive case is defeated.

“Despite having many of our own patients recover from COVID-19, we know it is our responsibility to help other facilities combat this virus by admitting their COVID patients to our specialty unit. We want to be the facility which goes above and beyond, to help prevent and stifle the spread of COVID-19 in other facilities and hospitals and in our community.”

Signature HealthCARE of Morgantown also wants to take this opportunity to say “Thank you” for the love, prayers, and support that has come from our community. We know there is a great deal of fear in our community concerning this virus. But the cards, letters, food and gifts we have received despite that fear, has truly encouraged our residents, staff and facility to keep pressing forward. Again, Thank you!

We at Signature HealthCARE are a family and “CARE” is not only in our name, but it is a part of our calling. We won’t back down. We truly are #SignatureStrong!
