Sheriff's Office, responders called to search for van in Green River
First responders searched for a white van Saturday after a witness told officials he saw it slide into the Green River near the 12000 block of Richardsville Road.
It’s not clear whether anyone was inside the van when it rolled into the river. Ultimately, responders searching for the van had to call off their efforts because of high water levels.
“Due to water conditions it’s not safe to dive right now,” said Capt. Tim Robinson, spokesman for the Warren County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
At the time, responders from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Richardsville Fire Department, Gott Fire Department and others were waiting to see if water conditions were safe enough for a diver.
“We’re waiting to get a few more resources here to make sure it’s safe for the divers to go in,” Robinson said before the search was temporarily called off.
Responders from the Butler County Rescue Squad used sonar equipment to pick up what they thought was the vehicle’s location, and other responders were also attempting to confirm it.
Ultimately, however, responders had to hold off on using divers because of rising water levels and debris in the river. Several branches and trees could be seen floating in the current.
“Apparently the river’s going to come up another two feet,” Robinson said, adding that rescuers may resume the search tomorrow or when conditions are safer.
