Senator C.B. Embry Jr. resigns due to health

Republican C.B. Embry Jr. of Morgantown has resigned due to health reasons after a two-decade legislative career.

"It has been an honor of a lifetime to serve the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the good of the people of District 6," Embry said in his resignation letter. "During my time in the Senate, I can truly say that I and my colleagues worked each day to make Kentucky an even greater state."

The 81-year-old Embry has been battling cancer and announced plans to retire during the 2022 session. A Senate resolution passed this year honored Embry's legislative career.

After announcing his retirement, Sen. C.B. Embry (R-Morgantown) was honored with a Senate resolution during the 2022 General Assembly.

In a statement, Senate President Robert Stivers called Embry "the epitome of a committed public servant."

'The very definition of a servant leader,' said Kentucky House Speaker David Osborne.

"While I am saddened to learn that Senator Embry has resigned, I respect his decision as I respect him for his lifelong commitment to bettering our Commonwealth. It was an honor to serve with him in the House and a privilege to work with him after he was elected to the Senate. C.B. is the very definition of a servant leader, guided by his faith to be an indomitable advocate for the people of his district. That same faith has made him an inspiration as his commitment to family and service has not waivered during this long and arduous battle with cancer. I wish he and Wanda the very best and the comfort of knowing that they are both leaving here after a job well done."

"Senator C.B. Embry, has been a huge asset to our county and community.  I have had the honor of knowing C. B. for a while and have gotten to work with him the last few years.  He has done a lot for all of us and our county.  While we will all miss him representing Butler County, we hope he knows how blessed we all was to have him as our senator.  I ask that you all join us keeping C.B. and his wife Wanda in your prayers," said Butler County Judge Executive Tim Flener.

Embry was elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 2002. He has represented Butler, Muhlenberg, Ohio, and Hopkins County in the state Senate since 2014.

Before going to Frankfort, Embry served as mayor of Beaver Dam from 1970-1973 and Ohio County Judge-Executive from 1982-1990.
