BCMS Bears Football is gearing up for the 2018 season.  They have been hard at work all summer preparing for what promises to be an exciting season.  The Bears are still under the leadership of 2nd year head coach Elijah Flener.  Coming on board this season as assistant coaches are Brian Phelps and C.W. Decker.  Team numbers are down somewhat from last season, but what they lack in numbers they make up for in grit and determination. 

The Bears traveled to Warren Central High School this past Saturday to participate in the Dragon Bowl. Both 7th and 8th teams scrimmaged Drakes Creek on an extremely hot and humid day.  In an interview with Coach Flener he stated, "I am pleased with the overall performance of the 7th grade team.  They played some good defense and was able to string together some decent offense."  The 7th grade team finished their scrimmage with a 12-6 loss coming from a Gators last second run in touchdown. 

In 8th grade action, the Bears played a pretty solid defensive game against a much bigger Drakes Creek.  Coach Flener says the 8th grade team "struggled to get their offense going and made a few mistakes that possibly cost them the game."  8th grade came up short with a score of 6-0.

After viewing film to prepare the Bears this week for their first official game of the season, Coach Flener says he is pleased overall with both team's performance and effort.  

"We are out of shape, and we will work on that this week at practice.  I saw some good points and lots of things we need to work on, nothing major, just some small things that can make a big difference."  

Coach Flener's excitement and enthusiasm for this season is apparent. 

The Bears will begin their season this Thursday, August 9, at McLean County with 7th grade kicking off at 5:30 p.m. cut 8th grade to follow.  Come out and support the BCMS Bears every chance you get.
