School District seeks community input on MES, NBE principal positions

With both elementary principals Josh Belcher (NBE) and Jimmy Felty (MES) accepting positions at Central Office, the search for a new principal begins at both Morgantown Elementary School and North Butler Elementary School.

Both schools’ Site-Based Decision-Making Councils (SBDM), which are made up of teachers and parents, met collaboratively Friday afternoon, July 10th, for the required training for the principal selection process.  The training was conducted by a representative from the Kentucky Association of School Councils.  Butler County Schools’ Superintendent Robert Tuck serves as the chairperson of both the councils during the principal selection process.

According to Mr. Tuck, yesterday’s meeting focused on developing a questionnaire for stakeholders (parents, students, staff, and community members), establishing criteria for prospective candidates, and setting a timeline for a new principal to be in place. With plans for reopening in full swing, July 24 (or before) is the target date, with hope that the process may be completed sooner.

The stakeholder questionnaire/survey can be accessed at the link below:

The survey will close on July 14.  Both SBDM councils will meet again collaboratively on July 14 to start looking at candidate applications.

According to Kentucky law, school principals are hired by a majority vote of all SBDM Council members and the superintendent-designee.

Members of the NBE SBDM Council are Kelly Bratcher, Lodema Burgess, Mona Daugherty, Megan Miller, and Deana Jo Tomes.  Members for the MES SBDM are Kelsey Allen, Linda Amos, Jennifer Davis, Jan Embry, and Amber Smith.
