School Board recognizes students, BG-1 for athletic facilities denied

 The Butler County School Board of Education held its regularly scheduled meeting on February 12th at the Education Complex. All board members were in attendance.  Dr. Amy Hood opened the meeting to approve the agenda and approve last month’s January 9th minutes.

Mr. Howard presented the month’s treasurer report as Mr. Elms was not in attendance. The district has a balance of $2,246,493.03. Mr. Howard also recognized students Case Hooten and Blake Bratcher for each being selected as a Legislative Page and their upcoming trip to Frankfort.  “I am honored to have these two student representing their school and Butler County in Frankfort,” expressed Howard.  In addition, board member Debbie Hammers was presented with a certificate and pins for completing her level 4 board training. 

Mr. Howard communicated to the board that the BG-1 proposal for an updated athletic football, track, soccer, and tennis facility was denied, and would be moving forward with “Plan B” to reseed the football field to be ready for play this fall. “Hopefully we can revisit this when our bonding grows in the future”, Howard added.

Jimmy Arnold informed the board that Butler County placed 2nd in energy efficiency statewide, and plans to convert all lighting to the more energy efficient LED lights. “We missed 1st place by .3 of a point” added Arnold, “this LED lighting plan will increase our efficiency even more.”   

With a vote of 5-0, the board approved the following...

A.       Approve FY 18 School Facilities Construction Commission KETS First and Second Offers of Assistance in the amount of $31,784.00

B.       Approve FY 19-20 FRYSC FRYSC Continuation Program Plan and Assurances Certification

C.       Approve FY 19 School Year Student Accident andStudent Athletic Year Insurance Renewal with Roberts Insurance in the amount of $33,669.20

D.       Approve FY 17 Nutrition and Physical Activity Report Card

E.       Approve BCHS JROTC Trip Request to Attend Drill Competition at Floyd Central High School in Floyd Knobs, Indiana on March 18th – 17th, 2018

F.       Approve FY 18 Butler County Schools District Comprehensive Improvement Plan

G.      Approve NBES Archery Team Request to Attend the State Competition in Louisville on March 30th – March 31st

H.       Approve Submission for Requests for Proposals for LED Light Upgrade and HVAC Controls Upgrade

The board met in closed session and adjourned.
