According to officials at Butler County High School an individual or individuals are trying to scam money from local residents using the Butler County High School Football team and the Butler County Band as fronts.

On Wednesday morning BTN/WLBQ was made aware of the scam. The individuals are contacting businesses and private citizens claiming to be selling advertising as a fundraiser for the football Bears and/or band. The scammer claims that the $500 ad will get the buyer advertising in programs and on the field for the 2013 season. School officials advise that no one is selling advertising or fundraising for neither the football team or band and that citizens should be cautious of purchasing fundraising items for any sport or organization that aren’t sold by booster groups or persons associated directly with the team.

If you are contacted to purchase ads, attempt to get a name and phone number from the individual and contact either Butler County High School, the Butler County Sheriff or the Kentucky State Police.
