Robbins take the helm as BCHS Softball head coach

A former Butler County Softball player, who played four years of college softball, has been named interim head softball coach for Butler County High School.  Amy (Rogers) Robbins, 26, was named to the position after Coach John Embry announced his retirement earlier this year after leading the program for 20 years.  Robbins is also a 7th grade math teacher at Butler County Middle School.

Coach Robbins kicked off her inaugural season last night with a 15-0, 3-inning win on the road at McLean County.  Butler County (1-0) is scheduled to be at  Logan County on Friday night, weather permitting.

"I am excited for this opportunity to teach and coach the game I have loved since I was just a little kid who could barely walk.  Becoming head coach of a softball program has been a dream of mine since I was little, but becoming head coach of the softball program I played for, learned so much from, and helped me get to college is a dream come true," said Robbins.  "I definitely have some big shoes to fill, following in the footsteps of a softball hall of fame coach, but these ladies have been working hard getting prepared for this upcoming season. It's going to be a great season!"

"Amy knows the program inside and out and I'm confident she'll do a great job as head coach," said John Embry, former head coach.  "With her years as an stand-out player, valuable coaching experience, and strong organizational skills, the program is definitely in good hands and I anticipate a bright future for BCHS Softball."

Assisting Coach Robbins this season is Jesse Miller and Lynsie Clark.  Both have valuable coach experience with the program.  Miller has coached travel softball as well and Clark is a former teammate of Robbins and also played four years of college softball.

"It is going to be tough for anyone to follow a legendary, hall of fame coach like Coach Embry, but we are lucky to have someone with Amy's work ethic and passion for softball and the success of our students," said BCHS Principal Stoye Young.  "We are lucky to have her, and we are thankful to have her step in and be a role model for these young ladies."

While her position at the moment is "interim" head coach, Robbins has already applied for the permanent position.
