Renovations to Granville Allen Post 5837

It has been thirty years since the Granville Allen Post 5837 has been updated.  This summer an interior facelift was performed giving the post a new, clean look inside. The majority of the renovations have been overseen by Commander Jim Parker, Vice Commander Andy Gidcumb, and local contractors.  The walls have been repainted, new trim will be added, all 600 tiles in the ceiling have been replaced, and a new roof installed.  However, they are not done yet!  Next on the list of renovations will be the bathrooms and the kitchen. Effective June 1st, 2022, the facility officially went “smoke free”.  If you are a dedicated smoker, you can take refuge in the new covered outdoor smoking area.

Not only is the post a place for veterans to fellowship, it has been a staple in our community in regards to fundraising.  In less than two months’ time benefits have been held for Sean Wilson, Tracey Clark, and for the Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief. In addition to the fundraisers, a veterans appreciation dinner was held as well. Every Tuesday from 12pm – 4pm is reserved for veterans only regardless of membership status. While the V.F.W. Post is for veterans only, any time a fundraising event is held, it is open to the public.

Fun fact, the post is available to rent for private events. Equipped with pool tables, cards, and cornhole sets, the location is a perfect place for hosting privately.   If you are interested in renting the facility, you can reach out to Bryan Pharris at 901-828-5959.

The Granvile Allen Post 5837 is doing great things in our community!  To stay up to date on all of their fundraisers and events, visit their Facebook page, “The Canteen”, or tune in to 101.5 WLBQ to hear a weekly update from Commander Jim Parker while he is visiting Smokin’ Joe.
