Rebuilding the Morgantown Nazarene Church

Pastor Ruth Morgan has been at the Morgantown Church of the Nazarene in Aberdeen since 2014.

Eighteen months ago, they noticed that the roof was falling in because the trusses were failing.

For a small church, this could have been a challenging task to undertake. Still, members began raising money by taking personal items from their homes and selling them at the Aberdeen Trading Post.  A sister Nazarene church raised money and donated to their building fund. Their first donation on the Go Fund Me Page was for twenty-five dollars. The donor commented, “I spend that much on donuts!”

Eventually, they raised enough to get a loan, and Zion Church Builders offered to cut some of their costs so the church could be rebuilt.

When the church was initially built in 1971 by Bob and Stoy Snodgrass, the site was an illegal dump site.  After cleaning the property and making the basement, an anonymous donor had a semi-trailer of lumber dropped off so they could start framing the building. In 1976, John Tharp served as the first pastor.

The newly-rebuilt church will be handicap accessible. They were fortunate that the walls were not damaged so they could install the new trusses on them. Thankfully two hours before heavy rain, the new roof was completed.

Hopefully, in q couple of months, Pastor Ruth will be giving her sermons from a new pulpit.

Presently services are held in the Youth Activities Building next door at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

The Nazarene Church is located at 2827 Beaver Dam Road on Eden Stretch and they are on Facebook. Com/mtownnaz.
